Our new director, Marrisa, began in April 2022 and is so excited to work with our survivors and staff. She has lots of experience working with survivors of trauma and is ready to make a positive impact!
Her favorite part of working with SIS: “helping empower women and showing them that they are not defined by their trauma."

Emma Baughman

Community Outreach Advisor
Emma began her work with Sisters in Shelter as an intern in January 2021. She is now serving as the Community Outreach Advisor. She has always been passionate about women's rights, education, and empowerment and is dedicated to advocating for survivors in the community.
Emma has her Bachelors degree in political science and English literature from Heidelberg University and has even completed coursework through the University of Oxford. .
Her favorite part of working with SIS: “Seeing firsthand the resilience of our clients and having the opportunity to help them grow in whatever way I can. I'd love to empower women in the community to use their voice for change."

Brooke Miller

Case Manager
Brooke began her professional career as the Case Manager for Sisters in Shelter in March 2021. She is expected to graduate from The Ohio State University in May 2023 with her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work as well as a double-minor in Sociology, and Substance Misuse and Addictions. She has worked with various populations, including offenders in Ohio’s prison system, mental health and addictions clients, and hospice patients in end-of-life care. In 2022, Brooke became a certified End-of-Life Doula through the International End-of-Life Doula Association and continues to volunteer with local hospice agencies. She is passionate about helping others from all walks of life, no matter their background.
Some of Brooke’s hobbies include: decorating, gardening, hiking, kayaking, meditating, running her Etsy shop, taking care of her (many) house plants, and spending quality time with her friends and family.
Her favorite part about working with SIS: “Making a positive impact in the lives of others no matter their story or challenges, and giving clients the tools and resources needed to succeed.”
